About the Item

A limited Edition Print by National Geographic Photographer Keith Ladzinski from his series “Rooted: The Importance and Beauty of Trees”. Over the last 10,000 years, the planet has lost over 1/3rd of its forests, some 5 Million square miles, half of that since the 1900’s. Tree’s are responsible for 3 of every 10 breaths of air we inhale, and provide shelter and habitat for countless species. Simply put, a world without trees would be bleak and inhospitable for terrestrial animals in a whole, they bring balance, beauty and stability to life here. Over the last century humans have cut down half of the planets rainforests for lumber and agricultural habitat. As heat index and drought conditions continue to increase, many trees are facing an ever increased threat of wild fire and access to fresh water. This series focuses on the beauty and hardships of trees around the world. Soft twilight warming the scene over one of the most iconic formations of the Great Basin Desert, the great Mitten Rock of Monument Valley, Utah. This one of a kind photograph here was taken in 2015, an in-camera double exposure, the process of shooting two photographs onto one single image, to create this surreal image of both rock formation and juniper tree. Monument Valley is sacred to the Navajo Nation, and a backdrop that has been used widely throughout the 20th century in film productions depicting the great wild west.
