About the Item
Street Photographer Mithcell Funk captures the Chrysler Building as it stands between two neighbors. Compositional exactitude adds to the overall visual appeal of Funk's formal composition. But it's Funk's use of extreme light or "Light Hyperbole" that elevates his work from typical tourist snapshots into a unique visual statement that bears the mark of its creator. In the present image, we are approaching the boundary of pure abstraction as skyscrapers become graphic shapes in their animated dialog with each other.
Funk has been shooting the Chrysler Building for 50 years, and this recent photo shows how the New York Art Deco icon has an enduring appeal even as the adjacent structures change.

Mitchell Funk
Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of color photography. In 1970, he participated in one of the first color photography shows at the Brooklyn Museum titled “Images en Couleur." In 1971, he was included in the visionary books Frontiers of Photography and Color (Life Library of Photography), both published by Time-Life. He has done more than 50 photography magazine covers, including covers for Newsweek and Life.
