A golden Empire State Building sits comfortably inside the center arch of the Manhattan bridge as if that space was designed for it. Precise composition combined with magical late light is a hallmark of Mithcell Funk's work. It is important to look at a work in the time period it was taken. In still photography as well as cinematography, visual artists were rarely using dramatic lighting in 1975. Mitchell Funk is a pioneering vision of light and design. His body of work for 50 years has continuously employed styles and techniques that decades ago were absent from the visual lexicon but today are the rage.

Mitchell Funk
Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of color photography. In 1970, he participated in one of the first color photography shows at the Brooklyn Museum titled “Images en Couleur." In 1971, he was included in the visionary books Frontiers of Photography and Color (Life Library of Photography), both published by Time-Life. He has done more than 50 photography magazine covers, including covers for Newsweek and Life.
