East 42nd Street glows with a deep red from the afterglow of Manhattanhenge. One-point perspective adds drama with converging lines culminating at a vanishing point at the Hudson River. In the middle distance, the Illuminated Crown of the Chrysler Building glows but from internal lighting. This is a magic moment with multiple light sources. With its meticulous composition and perfect pitch of color, the present image provides the experience of Manhattanhenge in a heightened form. Photographer Mitchell Funk has approached on-location street photography with the same precision and lighting that is used in studio photography.
Signed dated and numbered 2/15 lower right recto, other sizes available, unframed and printed later. This work is printed on fine art Hahnemuhle paper. The color will vary from monitor to monitor. Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of color photography. In 1970, he participated in one of the first color photography shows at the Brooklyn Museum titled “Images en Couleur." In 1971, he was included in the visionary books Frontiers of Photography and Color (Life Library of Photography), both published by Time-Life. He has done more than 50 photography magazine covers, including covers for Newsweek and Life.
