About the Item
Perched upon a New York City street sign, a orange-eyed pigeon is captured in a moment of deep bird contemplation. Behind him rises the permanent Art Deco facade of the Chrysler Building and frames the bird's temporary silhouette.
In this unexpected work, Photographer Mitchell Funk juxtaposes objects of small and large scale in a unified composition. Funk documents a delicate moment as he pushes the image toward abstraction.

The Chrysler Building is one of the most photographed buildings in the world. Yet Mitchell Funk's photographs of it are anything but a tourist snapshot. For over 50 years, Funk has been celebrating and rediscovering it visually in a way that exemplifies the innovative spirit of its creators.
The work is signed dated and numbered 3/15 lower right recto, with other sizes available, and it's unframed and printed later. Printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art paper

Mitchell Funk
Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of color photography. In 1970, he participated in one of the first color photography shows at the Brooklyn Museum titled “Images en Couleur." In 1971, he was included in the visionary books Frontiers of Photography and Color (Life Library of Photography), both published by Time-Life. He has done more than 50 photography magazine covers, including covers for Newsweek and Life.
