A seedy night street scene becomes an art statement through the lens of Mitchell Funk. He transforms a gaudy commercial sign into a colorful abstraction with the blur of car lights in the foreground. With the advent of the digital world and the internet, these remnants of another world have largely disappeared. Mitchell Funk is not an artist deeply committed to social issues, rather his central concern is capturing the light, shape, color, and form around him. This work is not meant to express the inner feelings and emotions of the artist but how the artist reinterprets the aesthetics of the street. Mitchell Funk
Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of color photography. In 1970, he participated in one of the first color photography shows at the Brooklyn Museum titled “Images en Couleur." In 1971, he was included in the visionary books Frontiers of Photography and Color (Life Library of Photography), both published by Time-Life. He has done more than 50 photography magazine covers, including covers for Newsweek and Life.
