About the Item
In 1980, conventional thinking suggested that one highly dramatic photograph of the New York skyline would be a sufficient artistic statement. Photographer Mitchell Funk felt there was more he could do to express New York's vibrancy and vastness. He took two nighttime skyline images from different angles and pieced them together. "Two New York Skylines" is not just a unique picture for 1980 in a graphic sense but in it's vastness and energy, reveals the psychological state of the city. The top half of the picture is the Central Park South skyline photographed from the Sheep Meadow. The bottom half is Mid-Town Manhattan with Central Park in the distance photographed from 30 Rock. Views of the Empire State Building and Chrysler Building from Central Park are now blocked by new skyscraper development.
For the last 55 years, Mitchell Funk has endlessly explored the relationship of light, color, shape and composition, which has become the artist's central pursuit.

Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of "Color Photography" In 1970 he participated in one the first "Color Photography" shows at a major museum. Brooklyn Museum, show "Images en Couleur". 1971 Included he was included in the visionary book "Frontiers of Photography" Time Life. Color! American Photography Transformed. Amon Carter Museum. He has had more than 50 Photography Magazine Covers and has had covers on Newsweek, Fortune, New York Magazine and Life Magazine among others.

Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of color photography. In 1970, he participated in one of the first color photography shows at the Brooklyn Museum titled “Images en Couleur." In 1971, he was included in the visionary books Frontiers of Photography and Color (Life Library of Photography), both published by Time-Life. He has done more than 50 photography magazine covers, including covers for Newsweek and Life.
