Beyond a 19th-century vermilion brick facade and standing proud and tall in a hazy New York City sky, we see The Chrysler Building's glimmering stainless steel crown. Whether the building is close up or in the distance, its distinctive Art Deco shape defines the skyline.
The Chrysler Building is one of the most photographed buildings in the world. Yet Mitchell Funk's photographs of it are anything but a tourist snapshot. They are carefully crafted and inventive depictions. For 50 years, Funk has been celebrating and rediscovering it visually in a way that exemplifies the innovative spirit of its creators.

Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of color photography. In 1970, he participated in one of the first color photography shows at the Brooklyn Museum titled “Images en Couleur." In 1971, he was included in the visionary books Frontiers of Photography and Color (Life Library of Photography), both published by Time-Life. He has done more than 50 photography magazine covers, including covers for Newsweek and Life.
