About the Item

For over 50 years, Mitchell Funk has been renowned for creating images with hyper-lighting and compositional exactitude. The present image, "Wherever You Look, You See The Chrysler Building: The Statue of Liberty " fits that description and more. Here, Funk shoots the Manhattan skyline from the vantage point of a boat in New York Harbor. In the foreground, the Statue of Liberty dominates the composition. The dramatic light of late afternoon defines Liberty and reveals the Manhattan skyline in high contrast with warm colors set against a cerulean blue sky. In between the Empire State Building and the Twin Towers, the spire of the Chrysler Building, although relatively small in scale, pokes it's head above lesser structures. The image is part of a new epic exhibition, Mitchell Funk Photographs The Chrysler Building for 50 Years. The Chrysler Building is one of the most photographed buildings in the world. Yet Mitchell Funk's photographs of it are anything but a tourist snapshot. For 50 years, Funk has been celebrating and rediscovering it visually in a way that exemplifies the innovative spirit of its creators. The work is signed dated and numbered 3/15 lower right recto, with other sizes available, and it's unframed and printed later. Printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art paper The uploaded video on 1stDibs is coming up a bit off color.
