The city of Pau in southwest France is overrun by exotic vegetation, lights, billboards, and concrete fields in the 'Tropic of the Pyrenees' series. As a result, and in an unexpected way, the urban aesthetics of Florida or California are reflected in the Pyrenean landscapes. Viewers are astounded by this contradiction, which makes them wonder about the current absurd urban transformations. Xavier Dumoulin creates vibrant, almost cinematic photographs in these late-night Hollywood settings, examining the relationship between man and his environment and the upcoming effects of climate change.

Concerned with environmental issues, Xavier Dumoulin reveals, with his photographs, a growing dichotomy between man and his environment. Light pollution, globalization, climatic change... his photographs perfectly depict the Anthropocene, the current era in which human activity has been the dominant influence on climate and the environment. Xavier Dumoulin has received several awards for his photography: public award Dahinden and solo exhibition at Paris Photo in 2022 with the series “Incandescences”, finalist in Bourse du Talent 2016 with the series «Limites», Jury’s prize at Hiiibrand Photography (China) in 2013, Fubiz prize and laureate at Photocollection in 2012, rewarded by the municipality of Paris at the “Urban photo” contest in 2011. “My work is above all a means of expression, a message to raise awareness of the emergencies of our time.”
