About the Item

Tim & Sue and Issie by Marcus Tomlinson was a photograph originally created for German Vogue in 1997 and made into a limited edition C-type super-gloss print in 2022. The portrait shows fashion magazine editor Isabella Blow and artists Tim Noble and Sue Webster. Background: Marcus Tomlinson creates visionary photographs and films that uniquely combine art and fashion sensibilities. His work experiments with both still and moving imagery, often exploiting the creative tensions between the two. His intensely crafted, highly stylized, studio-based imagery has won him international acclaim in galleries and museums internationally. In the 1990s, Tomlinson produced photographs for iconic Face, and i-D magazines and fashion designer Koji Tatsuno. Years before Photoshop, his photographs used experimental techniques such as multiple exposure and hand-masking. He experimented with the boundaries between still and moving imagery, creating photographic sequences of ‘stills’; and occasionally producing flip books in the style of early film experiments. In the late 1990s Tomlinson was commissioned by Philip Treacy to create a photographic series of the designer’s hats for the fashion magazine Visionaire, which became defining for both the photographer and the milliner. Subsequently he worked with fashion designers Hussein Chalayan, Issey Miyake and Gareth Pugh on photographs and films for museum exhibitions.
