About the Item
Anne Noggle (American, 1922-2005), "The Old Nymph", Gelatin Silver Print, 1985, titled and dated lower left, marked "ANC/031" and signed in pencil lower right, titled and dated to verso, silver-tone frame. Image: 14" H x 19" W; frame: 20.25" H x 24.25" W x 0.75" D. Provenance: From a 35 East 75th Street Estate. Note: Anne Noggle was a Woman Airforce Service Pilot (WASP) during World War II, later a pilot during the Korean War and a Captain in the United States Air Force. In her forties, Noggle started her career as a photographer and is known for her Black and White Photography, primarily her self portraits and images of older women.

Anne Noggle
Anne Noggle (1922–2005) was a former World War II military pilot who started her career as a photographer in her 40s, and she is known for her black & white self-portraits and portraits of older women. Her work challenges the stereotypical portrayal of women and the female body, and deals with the aging process, identity and self-presentation. Noggle studied art history at the University of New Mexico, where she also worked as an adjunct professor of art from 1970 to 1984. In the 1970s she was also a Curator of Photography at the New Mexico Museum of Art. Her photographic work received many awards and grants, and today is held in the collections of several art museums.
