We Are The Earth

We are the Earth is comprised of a photograph, acrylic paint, found objects in nature (bones, leaves, flowers, stones, crystals) and resin. The base materials for the work consist of a wooden paneled canvas that provides the platform for the adhesion of a rolled photographic canvas, a fine art photography print. The canvas print, in this case a double exposure digital photograph, is adhered to the wood using a clear acrylic varnish. Acrylic Paint is added along with the objects that I found in nature, which are all placed in a careful and meticulous fashion, finally cemented in resin. This specific piece of art was my first large scale piece of its kind, created in my studio in Brooklyn in 2019.
This piece was inspired by the colors of my travels, the deserts, trees, mountains and sunsets. The human depicted is myself, it is a self-portrait captured in Great Sand Dunes...

About the Series:
Aldara Ortega’s series Agua Viva was an entirely experimental journey brought together by the serendipity of life, motion, and emotion. Ortega found the model featured in these photos at an art fair where she was spellbound by her work with silks. The two met in Miami and brought to life a series of three photographs entitled, Liquid Passion, El Beso, and Poderosa Nereida. Within these masterpieces Ortega discovered her passion for not capturing poses, but motion and how looking closely at the in-between moments of life can bring to light undiscovered emotions.
About the photo:
Aldara Ortega spontaneously captured this image of a friend on a trip to the British Virgin Islands. One Love was created through the guidance of Ortega combined with the model's complex past with water. We tend to try and fight the tempests of life, but we must learn how to float and let things be. Nobuyoshi Araki (Tokyo, 1940) is a Tokyo-based photographer. Araki completed his studies at Chiba University’s Department of Photography, Painting and Engineering with a focus on the study of film and photography. His photographic project Satchin earned him the prestigious Taiyo Award in 1964, shortly after he had joined the advertising agency Dentsu, where he worked until 1972. At Dentsu he met his wife Yoko, to whom he paid homage in Sentimental Journey, a photographic record of their honeymoon published in 1971. I was thinking that the shape and structure of the universe repeated itself at every level and suddenly I had the image in my mind of a skier going down a breast. This was it - the universe repeating its shapes - a body looking like a mountain. It was also an example of two realities coexisting. The picture could be seen as a landscape and it could also be seen as a body. Although they were different, both perceptions were right at the same time. I knew instantly that I had an entire series of images waiting to be captured on film"
