This photograph was presented as part of The Other World exhibition, curated by Olga Daniele, held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, during COP29, the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference. It is one of 16 striking images in a series that highlights the richness and variety of Azerbaijan’s native wildlife. To create this body of work, the artist travelled across the country, visiting locations such as the Alpaca Farm in Shamakhi, the Safari Park, and the Bina Equestrian Center in Baku.
Brad Wilson, who lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico, began his acclaimed Affinity series in 2010. This bold and innovative project features studio portraits of wild animals, captured in a highly controlled setting. Photographing such subjects poses a unique challenge—the animals are unpredictable, and achieving the perfect moment often demands long hours of patience. Wilson seeks to reveal a profound, almost spiritual connection with each creature—a fleeting instant when the animal's presence becomes fully visible.
By photographing against a deep black background, Wilson removes all distractions, directing the viewer’s attention to every detail, particularly the gaze. These portraits transcend time and place, inviting contemplation on the individuality of each species and their connection to humanity. Whether portraying tigers, snakes, monkeys, or rare birds, Wilson approaches each subject with a sense of reverence and dignity, offering a powerful visual homage to the animal world.

Brad Wilson
Brad Wilson's early education in the visual arts began at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he studied art history and studio art. From there, he moved on to both the Maine and Santa Fe Photographic Workshops to focus exclusively on photography before settling in New York City. In New York, Wilson worked with several notable photographers and then began his career in the commercial and fine-art genres. His work has been widely published around the world, appearing in numerous advertising campaigns, magazines, annual reports, and music packages. His fine-art photographs are currently represented by Doinel Gallery in London, Surround Art Gallery in Moscow, Artistics Gallery in Paris, and PhotoEye Gallery in Santa Fe. His first book, Wild Life, was released by Prestel. After more than a decade in New York City, Wilson moved to New Mexico, where he continues his photography surrounded by the beauty and tranquility of the southwestern deserts.
