About the Item
This young Turkana girl in northern Kenya wears a goatskin known as an ‘egolas’. In traditional Turkana communities the inhabitants are excellent at making garments from animals, and skins undergo a process lasting several days that involves drying, removal of hairs and sometimes dyeing.
A return to Kenya. On this trip John took a different approach to lighting. Building makeshift studios from locally acquired white sheets held up by four warriors and their spears! The suffuse light allows John to capture a remarkable level of detail. His subjects calm demeanor belies the reality of harsh arid winds, extreme temperatures and dust.
The C-type prints are mounted with an acrylic face mount giving them a 3-dimensional appearance and a contemporary look.
