About the Item

The photograph of Laughing policeman on Horse 42nd Street Times Square with golden light depicts an unexpected private moment in the most public of spaces. The policeman is clearly in his own world emotionally and in terms of physical space. In the center of the composition, from top to bottom there is nothing but horse and rider. To the left and to the right, the tense space is crammed with people and traffic. The effect is enveloping the Policeman in his own serene world. He is illuminated by an almost godly light that creates a golden halo around him. This image is signed, dated and numbered 2/15 lower right recto. Other sizes are available. The work is unframed and printed later. Can a street photograph be a grab shot and precisely designed at the same time? Mitchell Funk says yes.
