About the Item
Autographed Portrait and Dedication of Giuseppe Garibaldi is a double historical document, that includes an albumen portrait with autograph dedication and a cardboard tablet with different dedications, both by Giuseppe Garibaldi to Eugenio Monicelli
Photographic portrait in very good condition, with slightly faded signature on the front and dedication perfectly preserved on the back. Official portrait of Garibaldi made by Vittorio Besso (Shoted in Caprera,8 july 1880), dedication dated 6 November 1880. 17 x 11 cm
Cardboard tablet with a dedication in which Garibaldi offers this gift to Eugenio Monicelli, "Presidente dei Reduci Tiratori nelle Patrie Battraglie" (President of the Veterans Shooters). Dedication hand-written, good condition, ink spots and sealing wax.
This unique document comes from Garibaldi's old age who died only two years later, proved by senility and serious walking problems caused by the numerous battles. In the photograph, the hero poses with a proud and bearded face, showing the famous scarf tied to his neck. The print belongs to a series of official portraits, characterized by a particular note on the hardcover.
It is very interesting that the cardboard tablet retains proof of the authenticity of the autograph and the place where this precious gift was delivered. The presence of a second undecoded signature on the back of the photograph is interesting and worthy of further research

Vintage Photo-Portrait Hand Signed by Giuseppe Garibaldi - 1870s
Located in Roma, IT
Signed Portrait of Giuseppe Garibaldi is an albumen print realized by Lugi Montabone, Florence 1870 circa.
The portrait is signed with a dedication handwritten by Garibaldi on the lower edge of the cardboard.
Excellent conditions. Cardboard cm 11 x 16, print cm 10 x 14
This unique document of Italian history reproduces a famous photographic portrait of Giuseppe Garibaldi, taken by Luigi Brogi at the end of his life. In the portrait the famous hero wears a poncho and a beret, the face looks very tired but retains a fierce expression on the face.
The pose of this photograph, exactly like the clothing, suggests that this photo is a tribute to another portrait made by Brogi but in 1866, in which Garibaldi poses in the height of his celebrity, dressed in the same South American tradition clothing.
The incredibly characteristic element of this exceptional document concerns the autograph: the handwriting part is certainly written by Garibaldi's hand but with discontinuous and angular signs, an evident than tender sign of the senility of the "hero of the two worlds".
Giuseppe Maria Garibaldi (4 July 1807 – 2 June 1882) was an Italian general, patriot, and republican. He contributed to the Italian unification...

Portrait of Garibaldi - Original Albumen Print with Hand-Written Notes - 1860/70
Located in Roma, IT
Portrait and Patriotic Epitaph written by Garibaldi is a CDV albumen print, datable around 1870 circa.
The portrait contains a patriotic dedication on the front and a long epitaph hand-written on the back.
Very good condition, slight signs of wear on the edges, typical of an object touched and revered and in any case written in pen on almost its surface. Cm 9,5 x 5,5
In the picture a reproduction of an unpublished painting by Garibaldi, which can be placed for its physiognomy and clothing in the years after the "Expedition of the Thousand" (1860). The photographic print also dates around 1860/1870. On the front low margin there is written a powerfull patriottic slogan: "Venite a morire con me" (come die with me), on the back, in same ink and same handwriting there is a long epitaph, readable for almost all of its entirety, reminiscent of a young and strong man who fell for Italy.
Unfortunately this long and poetic text, written on the small surface of the CDV, presents some illegible words written on the iedges, which certainly contained the signature, the date and probably the name to which it is dedicated.
in the text there are no coretions, but the punctuation and the stylistic form, with some repetitions, suggests that it was written in one go.
The handwriting, compared to other autographs by Garibaldi seems the same, especially in the use and in the form of capital letters, used as on other similar writings by Garibaldi to emphasize the words closest to the idea of death for the homeland.
It is reasonable to think that this portrait was given to the loved ones of an important fallen soldier, by Giuseppe Garibaldi as his habit. There are other similar documents, in which the hero dedicates poetic verses to famous or friends, in this case, however, the expressive power refers to images of the period of the first Italian battles...
