Contemporary still life cyanotype photograph of delicate rose poised in a blue glass vase.
David Sokosh is a storyteller with a unique ability to internalize, synthesize, and recollect. If one of his tenderly photographed stills lifes was a tiny window into the workings of his mind, then on the other side you would discover a trove of collected treasures. Vintage teacups with cheeky quips and phrases fill shelves of props in the studio alongside antique busts, a skull, silver teapots, an old baseball signed by Babe Ruth; a mannequin donning a vintage, sailor uniform leans casually in the corner. His sustained preoccupation with material culture feeds his interest in photography and historical processes, making his knack for collecting the subject of his art. Sokosh has always embraced analog photographic methods, accepting heavy equipment and long exposure times as necessary mechanisms to antiquated production. In recent work, he creates prints from negatives using the 19th Century process of cyanotype. Relishing the physical qualities of hand-crafted prints, he uses chemistry and scale to manufacture variations on themes in signature, blue tones. Sokosh’s work is in numerous public collections including the Polaroid Corporation.
Artist Statement:
In this era of viewing digitally created images on screens, I am part of the renaissance in hand-crafted photography. Using the Nineteenth Century techniques of black and white film shot in large format view cameras and cyanotype printing, I create photographic pieces on paper in limited editions. I am drawn to the hand-crafted nature of these photographs.
I live in a self-created pre-modern world full of period objects of all kinds. These authentic process lets me explore the mindset of the early photographer/scientist/collector. I’m drawn to the quality of photograph-as-object that cyanotype yields and I see the limits of these technologies as a challenge rather than a hindrance.

- Dream a Little Dream (Archival Print of Blue Ball Point Pen Forest Landscape)By Linda Newman BoughtonLocated in Hudson, NYArchival inkjet print of a realistic lush country forest landscape drawing made with blue ball-point pen "Dream a Little Dream", original drawing made in 2022 by Linda Newman Boughton, limited edition of 15 prints made the same year Archival inkjet prints on German watercolor paper 37 x 32 inches unframed, framing options available Signed and editioned by the artist Excellent condition This suite of limited edition prints captures Linda Newman Boughton’s Baroque inspired landscape "Dream a Little Dream" in vivid detail. Taking four months to create, the original drawing was made entirely using the artist's favorite brand of “Rite in the Rain” waterproof blue-ink pen. Working from a photograph, Boughton employed a variation of pen strokes, combining gestural lines that serve as the drawing’s foundation, with tighter strokes to develop the sections of intricate detail. From a wild and tangled web of lines emerges identifiable forms, such as a complex root system or a bushy canopy of leaves. The work itself feels kinetic; millions of mark makings vibrate with an energy that stems from a sacred connection to nature. Boughton’s passion for the arts began early, as she acted, made art, and designed theatrical sets throughout her youth. She went on to study fashion illustration at Florida State University before transferring to F.I.T in New York City. Experience in the fashion world and her love for theatre soon landed her jobs in Hollywood, painting sets and murals for feature films such as Nightmare on Elm Street VII, Fight Club, among many others. The artist lives in Ghent, NY with her husband where she continues to make art and write and create show ideas for television. Artist Bio: Linda grew up in an artistic and theatrical family in Tampa, Florida. Drawing and painting always felt effortless and fun for her. Acting and designing in theatre also made up much of her early years. Her first choice in higher education was at Florida State University where she was a theatre major and had an art minor. At the University drawing skills were emphasized, and with a love of drawing people, she found herself in a fashion illustration class, loving every minute of it. Within a year of taking that class, she taught a summer fashion illustration course at Florida State University, and soon made her move to New York City where she attended the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology, graduating Cum Laude, with a degree in fashion illustration. She worked in the fashion industry for the next several years, illustrating, designing accessories and shooting freelance photography. Her love of acting and design soon propelled her to seek out Hollywood and the creative opportunities of working in the movie industry. Within in a year Linda was working as a lead scenic artist painting sets and murals for feature films.
