About the Item

Antonio Saura Spain, 1930-1998 Lithograph Serie Abierta-1 1989 75 x 104 cm Edition 99 painter Antonio Saura was born in Huesca on September 22, 1930. Self-taught, he began painting at age 15 during the convalescence of a long illness. In 1952 he travels to Paris. His work then evolves from initial surrealism to abstract art. In 1957 he became the leading theorist of informalism in Spain with the founding of the El Paso Group together with painters such as Rafael Canogar and Manuel Miralles of the El Paso Group. The artists who formed El Paso began a new chapter in the history of Spanish art: a free avant-garde was born after two decades of creative silence. Among the extensive production of Saura include works such as series Crucifixiones, History of Spain, Crowds, Imaginary portraits, Saurimaquias, etc. His style is defined as monochrome, using only black, or almost monochrome, introducing browns and grays. Fleeing from formal abstraction, Saura became a powerful expressionist, disregarding traditional forms of representation. His works are in the most important museums of the world. He died in Cuenca in 1998.

  • HARTUNG - original abstract lithograph- Limited editionsigned painting
    By Hans Hartung

HARTUNG - original abstract lithograph- Limited editionsigned painting Hans Hartung is commonly presented as a standard-bearer for the "Ecole de Paris" and the "lyrical abstraction" and primarily considered as a post-war painter. Nevertheless, in the late 30s, the German born artist has already participated in numerous exhibitions throughout Europe. His career really began in 1922: aged just eighteen, even he doesn’t know the theories of Kandinsky, he produces a series of abstract watercolors striking by their sheer expressiveness. This is the beginning of a career that lasted nearly seventy years and was punctuated by constant technical innovations. Paradoxical artist, Hartung will often be at the opposite of the image the critics build of him, resulting in a "distorted reception" (Annie Claustres). Presented as a champion of a gestural, lyrical and emotional painting...
