With hand-drawn lines overlaying a field of narrow, vertical stripes, Tom Orr’s Waterfall prints capture the sense of movement and space of a cascade. Shimmering moire’ patterns and subtle tonal differentiations between the two sets of lines enhance this dynamic visual phenomenon. Sailing at Blakeney Point is inspired by summer sailing trips from Morston to Blakeney Point in North Norfolk. In this linocut I was trying to create movement and a warm range iof colours. The cutting is intended to be vigorous with ears of wheat in the foreground against a setting sun. He taught etching, screen-printing, lino and related surface printmaking at Keswick Hall College in Norfolk. He later moved to the University of East Anglia, Norwich where he continued teaching in the School of Education until 2006. Presently he divides his time between printmaking and his other passion, playing the violin in local orchestras and for choral performances. In 2017 he began making a small number of sterling silver jewellery pieces following a course at West Dean, Sussex. His artwork follows themes, such as light on water, or shadows in the landscape.
