About the Item

Caviar20 is excited to offer "Train" - a signed and numbered print based on one of the artist's early ambitious sculptures "Jim Bean - J.B. Turner Train". The work debuted in 1986 as part of Koon's legendary second exhibition "Luxury and Degradation". Like the best of Koons' work, there was a fascinating intersection between kitsch and relic, between glamour and banality. The actual sculpture measured over 9 feet wide and was inspired by an actual Jim Beam decanter of a train. Koons created the sculpture in cast steel which was fitting considering the symbolism of American industry and development that depended on steel. "Train" was the largest work in the exhibition and would foreshadow his ambitions in steel. Within a few years, Koons would create more elaborate steel sculptures, including his famous "Rabbit" and the balloons of the "Celebration" series. Over the course of his career, Koons has created a very small number of prints or multiples. This affordable work by one of the most valuable artists of our day is a celebration of one of his best early works. Questions about this piece? Contact us. In 1967, General Idea was founded in Toronto by AA Bronson (b. 1946), Felix Partz (1945-1994), and Jorge Zontal (1944-1994). Over the course of 25 years, they made a significant contribution to postmodern and conceptual art in Canada and beyond. The group was both prolific and multi-disciplinary long before it became de rigueur. They use photography, sculpture, painting, mail art, video, installation, multiples, and performance. With their subversive approach and interest in parody and appropriation, General Idea addressed a broad range of social (and art-world) issues such as the cult of the artist, mass media, queer identity, and consumerism. Thematic continuity was a key element in General Idea's work. Early on they introduced talismans or logos that they would revisit and re-envision, including skulls, ziggurats, and poodles. This print comes from "Fear Management": a set of 8 prints...

Train
By Alex Corno
Located in Dallas, TX
In his abstract constructions, Alex Corno does not make art to repeat what is visible, to paraphrase Klee’s affirmation. He uses the formal language of materials and space: opposing thin arcs, rods, and loops with weighty rectilinear forms to achieve a dynamic balance. Corno welds his iron and stainless steel sculptures in a diverse range of scales, from small interior works to monumental garden...
