About the Item

Jennifer Jokhoo Borough Solstice Limited Edition Linocut Print Edition of 35 Sheet Size: H 21cm x W 29.5cm x D 0.3cm Sold unframed (Please note that in situ images are purely an indication of how a piece may look.) Borough Solstice is a limited edition Jennifer Jokhoo. The dark tones are contrasted by the piercing orange lights of offices whilst the red poppies flood over the Tower of London. Originally from New Zealand, Printmaker, Painter Jennifer Jokhoo works from her home studio in the Surrey Hills. She studied Fine Art and majored in Painting/Printmaking at Canterbury University School of Fine Arts in Christchurch, New Zealand. In 1998 she went on to complete a Diploma in Secondary Teaching. Since qualifying she has followed a career in Art education and has taught in New Zealand, Spain and the United Kingdom. In 2012 she was elected a member of Greenwich printmakers association. Then in May 2016, she was elected an associate member of the Society of Graphic and Fine Arts and received the ‘Associate’s award’ for her print ‘Summer Harvest’ at the Draw 2017 exhibition. Her work is exhibited widely across the South East in many galleries and is held in private collections in the UK, New Zealand, Mauritius, Australia, USA and Canada. Upon moving to the Surrey hills in 2014, Jennifer’s interest shifted from architectural landscapes, to areas that are closer to home. Hillside views, fields, wide skies and horizontal bands are elements that are visited and revisited in her Reduction linocut prints. The creative process requires intricate cutting and layering of colour which takes place over many weeks. Each reduction linocut is produced by hand; from the initial drawings, to the intricate cutting, inking and printing of editions. As a result Jennifer’s editions are kept very small. Jennifer works in relief and intaglio methods, however her preferred printmaking technique is ‘Reduction linoprinting’ otherwise known as the suicide method! In this method, a multi coloured print is pulled from a single block. The lino is inked with the lightest colour and the first printing is made. The areas to remain that colour are then cut away. This is the process for each layer, therefore it cannot be rewound or repeated. As a result Jennifer’s editions are kept very small. Her linocuts are drawn and cut by hand and her preferred inks are oil-based due to the vivid colours that can be achieved. They are also more agreeable with colour mixing. Jennifer enjoys the challenges of this method which requires thoughtful planning and execution. At the same time, it enables a certain degree of flexibility as the concept she begins with is never set in stone. The print evolves and changes shape during the process. She constantly responds to what the work needs rather than being restricted by preconceived ideas.

    By Joanna Padfield
    Located in Deddington, GB
Sailing at Blakeney Point is inspired by summer sailing trips from Morston to Blakeney Point in North Norfolk. In the foreground are flowers and plants typically found along the marches of the Norfolk coast. A Sailing barge is sailing back towards Morston and Blakeney Point can be seen in the distance . Jo Padfield, printmaker and artist, is available for sale online and in our gallery at Wychwood Art. Jo Padfield is an artist based in rural Norfolk - I love the natural world and my work celebrates nature and the natural environment, using bright vibrant colours and bold eye catching shapes and patterns. After studying at Norwich School of Art I went on to study and work in architecture. As my path in design continued, I have developed my love of colour and graphics in print making to create linocut prints. I like the process of cutting fresh lino with sharp tools and the anticipation of peeling paper off an inked block...

  • Abstract Landscape Indian Art Edition 3/5 Linocut Print Nature Orange Australia
    By Mukesh Sharma
    Located in Norfolk, GB
There is a natural and raw understanding in Mukesh Sharma’s prints that both depict, and are influenced by, the Rajastani communities of his home town in rural India. In these Limited Edition fine-art prints, made over a period of twenty years, we are offered the colours of India’s ancient land, the textures, light and the patterns that are everywhere. In the patterns of the arable fields to the jali's (carved screens) in the architecture. This work is however not romantic nor nostalgic but shows a deeper rooted need to offer a visual heritage of place, of where the artist is from and the journey that he is taking. The results are both compelling and honest. Mukesh Sharma, Jetty 1, Lino-cut chin- coll’e on German Ivory paper Edition: 3 of 5, 2005 Image size: 50 x 33 cm / Sheet size: 79 x 55 cm Unframed ''What mesmerised me was the meeting of the sea and the mountain peak. Where the Jetty, a special curved wooden staircase leading to one end and the deep crystal clear sea at a distance. These scenes were amazing to me." Mukesh Sharma's work: It is often in childhood that paths are set for what we will become. Mukesh Sharma hails from a rural, agricultural village in Rajasthan, India. His Father is a craftsman who fixed and mended farm machinery and understood the working parts in the processes. Sharma followed in his Father’s footsteps, as is often the case in Indian families, but his was not the machines of the fields but the presses of the printing studio. Like his Father, Mukesh Sharma is fascinated with understanding how things work and how he can manipulate the metal in his hands. It is not surprising then that his medium of choice is printing. One of the most physically challenging of all the practices, it can often be physically challenging as well as technical and detailed. In his youth, Sharma would draw with stones on walls and floors. He was lucky his family encouraged this and he is grateful for his early art-training at the Jaipur School of Art but it was at the Baroda Art Department that he was introduced to the great printing traditions of Jyoti Bhatt...
