About the Item

Look for free shipping at Check-out The Main Cluster series was specifically crafted for a selective collector with a predilection for artworks in shades of blue and red. The genesis of Main Cluster lies in the collector's preference for this particular color palette. Coming from the larger composition titled "Main Cluster," similar to the series "Diving in Blue," these artworks undergo a meticulous selection process, where distinct images are carefully extracted from the main composition. Main Cluster #1 is one of six images extracted from the original work of art. Each of the six prints is different and unique. Main Cluster is 22 x 17 x .1 . Main Cluster is an Archival print 1 of 1 on 100% cotton rag paper. Framed size is 23 x 28 x 1.5 which includes a covered linen mat . 100% cotton rag papers are traditionally used for printmaking and publishing, but are also ideal for drawing, watercolor and mixed media techniques. Cotton rag paper is superior in both strength and durability to wood pulp-based paper, which may contain high concentrations of acids. With proper conservation practices, 100% cotton rag papers may last hundreds of years without appreciable fading, discoloration, or deterioration. Luisa Duarte’s works has a strong connection with her Latin American roots, with special focus in the geometrical abstract movement, a movement adopted by Latin America during the late 50’s. It was very prominent in Venezuela. Her works are focused on explorations of shapes, lines , color and also on memories of her childhood in a promising country. Those memories are transformed into dynamic works invoking good energies to bring back what we have lost. In these complex geometrical systems, objects intersect, merge and collide, producing negative spaces that call the viewer to attention. In some cases, the almost imperceptibly off-kilter placement of geometrical elements within a composition speaks to her emphasis on relationships - the objects always exist in relationship to each other. There is a constant interest in constructing and deconstructing, and the consideration of endless juxtapositions. There are other works by Luisa Duarte available on 1stdibs and can be found by searching her name. Geometric Abstract: What is geometric abstract art? A form of abstract art that combines geometric, “hard-edge,” or linear forms. When geometric shapes are arranged in nonrepresentational space (i.e., the flat space of a canvas), and refer only to themselves rather than ideas or “real life,” they are sometimes called constructive or concrete. Duarte is a Venezuelan-American artist based in Houston. She has been exhibited around the world, including at the Holocaust Museum in Houston, the 2017 Texas Biennial in Austin and Museo de Arte Contemporáneo del Zulia, Maczul in Maracaibo, Venezuela. Duarte is known nationally for her distinctive monotypes and colorful paintings, characterized by sharp-edged geometric shapes that allude to her background in architecture. Her work focuses on themes of identity, fragility and the boundaries between personal and public. “I am working on a collage made of monotypes on rag paper,” Duarte shares. “It is a collection of fragments, a fictional territory, where the hard stone texture seemed to be captured or trapped by the paper. It also has a structure made of monotypes as well, hovering over the surface, indicating a road to be traveled. “This work will be part of an ongoing series talking about territoriality, fragility and borders that I have been working on since 2018. For me, the concept of territoriality encompasses not only the physical aspect of the space, but the emotional part as well. These territories that I create are spaces that work as refuge and solace. “They are a means to break away from chaos. They become repositories of longings, tributes and secrets.”
