About the artist:
Maxime Grossman was born in San Francisco, California, to Chinese and French parents. His parents were highly involved in the local art scene, so he was constantly immersed in different ideas and cultures. Maxime studied economics and industrial design and is influenced by geometry, typography, graffiti, vintage objects, and the natural landscapes of California. When creating art, his goal is to juxtapoz mechanical shapes with organic lines in a contextualized way to create a synergy from both forms. Maxime believes that by melding shapes found in the natural world with those found in mass-produced objects, we can acknowledge the permanence of human ingenuity while also recognizing our existence as fleeting and ephemeral. Maxime Grossman work has been exhibited among other, in galleries in San Francisco and La Rochelle, France. His linocuts are published by Joseph Grossman Fine Art, San Francisco.

He uses lushly colored and patterned images from all kinds of sources that bounce between abstraction and representation. Images come from tool catalogs, paper and fabric patterns, funhouse painting, architectural details, stripes, dots and squiggles. It is as if Burckhardt is a cartoonist merrily channeling Ellsworth Kelly, Paul Feeley, Robert Therrien, and Myron Stout, among others. Like Red Grooms, for whom he worked as an assistant, Burckhardt ransacks his influences yet ends up with something unmistakably his own. His work bears the influence of is a synthesis of many things: the tribal-influenced abstract painting of Steve Wheeler...Category
