About

Michael Manning is a Los Angeles artist whose practice in painting, video, sculpture, and digital work explores the relationship between technology and the analog. Manning has said his work concerns “ideas about the internet, and technology, and the necessity of the object in a time when photography and the distribution of JPEG images and all sorts of documentation are prevailing.” The imagery of abstract gestures questions the fluidity between material and digital cultures.

Slide (2013) is an acrylic, digital print on canvas of one of Manning’s digital creations. Manning produces the image using touch screen tablets or image software such as Photoshop, and then exhibits them as 3-D prints.
