About the Item
Mr. Brainwash Balloon Girl, 2022 showcases the famous form of a young girl reaching after a floating heart-shaped balloon, an image first introduced in 2002 as a stencil on a wall by Banksy. The image most recently made stunning waves as the object of a hidden shredder, activated to destroy a version of the Balloon Girl at Sotheby’s auction during high-flying bidding on the piece. Mr. Brainwash’s use of the Balloon Girl is one of his wildly colorful and referential pieces comes as no surprise. Mr. Brainwash worked with Banksy to create the documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop, a polarizing film that sparked many a tantalizing theory about the mysterious British street artist and a new addition to the Banksy and Shephard Fairy ranks – a French-born ex-pat named Thierry Guetta, better known as Mr. Brainwash. His connections with the two world-renowned street-artists-turned-art-icons continues to be enigmatic, but his eye-catching works are quite open in their frank allusions and irreverent appropriations. The work takes full use of its compositional space, giving the viewer a look into the saturated, multi-layered, witty, and unique world of Mr. Brainwash.
Created in 2022, Mr. Brainwash Balloon Girl is a silkscreen and mixed media on paper. This work is hand signed by Mr. Brainwash (Garges-lès-Gonesse 1966 - ). This is a unique and original work.

His fascination with the print media of popular culture led to a portrait-based art of cultural icons. Paschke used the celebrity figure, real or imagined, as a vehicle for explorations of personal and public identity with social and political implications. Although his style is representational, with a loose affiliation to Photorealism, Paschke’s art plays...Category
