This artwork titled "Skull" c.1990 is an original color etching and aquatint by noted California artist Arnold A. Grossman, 1923-2016. It is hand signed in pencil by the artist. The artwork size (plate mark) is 8.75 x 10.65 inches, sheet size is 15 x 20.75 inches. It is in excellent condition, has never been framed. About the artist. Arnold A. Grossman, born March 23, 1923, in Oakland, California, died July 29, 2016, in San Francisco. Arnold was was raised, in Napa, California. He graduated from the San Rafael Military Academy in 1941. He then attended Pomona College, but his studies were halted due to the war. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was seriously wounded in battle in the European field. He faced an arduous recovery when he returned home. He eventually made his home in San Francisco. Arnold was taking advantage of all of the culture that San Francisco has to offer to influence his work. He was especially known for his colorful watercolor depicting San Francisco Bay Area scenes, he also randomly created semi abstract paintings and watercolors. Arnold was a supporter of many cultural and Jewish institutions in San Francisco. He also enjoyed traveling and many of his painting are depicting Latin American scenes. He was a gifted artist and showed his work in numerous exhibits throughout the Bay Area, including the Coastal Arts League in Half Moon Bay. Even as he was suffering from his health in older age, Arnold continued painting. The Rhoda Goldman Plaza in San Francisco, has featured his work. The Work of This noted California artist is held in many private collections in the San Francisco Bay Area and California.

The image (plate mark) is 9 x 13.75 inches, sheet size is 10.30 x 16.5 inches. Published by Arthur Greatorax LTD, Grafton street, London. It is in excellent condition. About the artist: Born at Ramsgate, Kent on 12 July 1876, Winifred Austen only daughter of Josiah Austin, a Cornish naval surgeon, and his wife Fanny, née Mann. She amended the spelling of her surname from Austin to Austen from the time that she began to exhibit. In 1892 the family moved to Hornsey, London from where Austin attended the London County Council School of Arts and Crafts, studying under Cuthbert Swan, an animal painter. I n 1899 Austen exhibited a picture of a lion at the Royal Academy and in all exhibited more than seventy pictures at the Academy, the last in 1961. She worked in both oils and watercolor but Austen is most highly regarded as an etcher. In all she made some two hundred etched plates, beginning in 1906 with a series entitled The White Heron.
