Horse Race - Hand Colored Lithograph in Gouache
Dynamic hand-colored lithograph by Eugene Pechaubes (French, 1890-1967). Five horses and their riders are racing directly towards the viewer, one of which is jumping over a water hazard. The jockeys are dressed in bright colors - red, yellow, orange, and green. The horses are subtly colored with dramatic white accents.
Signed and numbered in the lower right: Eugene Pechaubes 231/300
Notation in lower left corner.
Presented in a new light grey mat.

Eugène Pechaubès was French painter and printmaker best known for his depictions of racehorses. He first became known for military scenes, particularly related to the Second Empire. Later he turned almost exclusively to action scenes of horses at celebrated French race courses.
