In 2010 and 2016 the Library of Congress acquired nearly 500 of Sances’ prints that broadly represent his output. His work has been exhibited widely, including the show “Committed to Print” at New York’s Museum of Modern Art. In 2022 he was invited to show his work at La Sorbonne, Université, in Paris. Sances work is featured in “¡Printing the Revolution! The Rise and Impact of Chicano Graphics 1965 to Now” at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. He is one of the few non-Chicanos whose work is featured in the exhibition. As an artist and community collaborator for the past 25 years, murals and public art have been Jos's passion. He has painted murals at the Oakland Coliseum and tile mural commissions at the AMTRAK/BART Station, Richmond, CA, the Sixteenth Street BART station in San Francisco. Two tile murals were completed in 2009, at the Castro Valley Library and Arnett Watson Apartments in San Francisco with Art Hazelwood. In 2015 and 2016 three screen printed tile murals and workshops were done in Todos Santos, Baja, Mexico, as well as the Shoruq Cultural Center in Dheisheh Refugee Camp.

El Sueno Despierta
By Juan Fuentes
Located in Palm Springs, CA
Signed, numbered and titled in pencil, from the edition of 30. Sueño Despierta (“Awake Dream”) is a visual meditation on identity, resilience, and cultural memory. Blending symbolic imagery with portraiture, the piece features a central figure whose eyes are open in a state of alert dreaming. Surrounding elements such as plants, spiritual motifs, and historical references evoke a deep connection to ancestral roots and collective struggle. Fuentes' intricate line work and layered textures create a dreamlike yet grounded atmosphere, emphasizing awakening not as an escape, but as a call to consciousness.
The turbulent times of the 70’s set the tone for Fuentes' approach to creating social art...

About the artist:
Internationally acclaimed sculptor and printmaker Francisco Zuñiga was born in Costa Rica. He studied drawing, stone sculpture, and engraving at the School of Fine Arts in San Jose. Later, in 1936, he studied stone carving at La Esmeralda in Mexico City. He was appointed to the faculty of La Esmeralda where he remained until his retirement in 1970.
Zuniga's art reflects a love and respect for Central American people and traditions. In 1972, he created his first lithograph. As a complement to his emotionally powerful sculpture, Zuniga's prints articulate the sensitivity and sensuality of the human figure. He has been the recipient of numerous international prizes and awards. His work is exhibited frequently in prominent galleries throughout the world and may be found in the permanent collections of twenty-nine museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum, the Mexican Museum in San Francisco, and the Phoenix Art Museum.
In 1936, Francisco Zuniga left San Jose, Costa Rica, where he had studied drawing at the School of Fine Arts and worked as an assistant in his father's studio, a workshop which produced religious sculpture for the churches and convents in and around the city. His destination was Mexico City. It was from there that he would begin an illustrious career as a sculptor and draftsman. Zuñiga's exploration into the nuances of volume, in line and space, are demonstrated in this, the most complete exhibition of his work to be shown in more than a decade.
Mexico City in 1936 was, even then, one of the major art centers of the Americas. As such it witnessed and participated in many of the frenzied and controversial art movements which reflected the political and intellectual climate of the first three decades of the twentieth century. Muralism, the graphic arts, the incorporation of in-ternational movements had produced an artistic climate, which would eventually attract to Mexico international artists and intellectuals such as Sergei Eisenstein...

Enrique Chagoya makes paintings and prints about the changing nature of culture. My artwork is a conceptual fusion of opposite cultural realities that I have experienced in my lifetime. I integrate diverse elements: from pre-Columbian mythology, western religious iconography and American popular culture.
On the border of this print surrounding the image the following is written:
An American tourist is approached by a Mexican kid holding a small human skull in his hand. He asks him: “Hey Mister, do you want to buy Pancho Villa...
