Animal Kingdom is a limited-edition lithograph, hand signed by the artist, Margaret Keane. The artwork measures approximately 26.75" x 20.13", and is sold unframed.
Margaret Keane, one of America’s most beloved and widely collected artists, was honored with a multi-million-dollar full length biographical drama film by director Tim Burton, titled “Big Eyes,” winning a Best Actress Golden Globe award for Amy Adams’ portrayal of Margaret’s extraordinary life, career, and deep abiding religious faith.
The film also addressed the struggles that Margaret experienced when her husband plagiarized her artwork and fraudulently claimed her paintings as his own; resulting in a four million dollar legal judgment against him.
Few artists in American history have ever achieved Margaret’s fame and recognition; and she did so by perfectly capturing the inner emotions of her subjects; mainly women, children, and animals, of which she said, “their eyes are windows to their souls.”
As a small child, Margaret had a hearing problem that compelled her to study a speaker’s eyes to better understand what they were saying.
Margaret recently passed away in Northern California.
