A poster for "The Winter Ball 1988" in Houston, Texas, presents a whimsical and surreal scene dominated by a large, translucent sphere floating above a deep blue, reflective surface. Inside the sphere, a vibrant miniature world thrives with exotic plant, animals and coral in shades of red, pink, and green. It is fantastical ecosystem that is perfect and untouched, containing multi-faceted crystalline rock formations, intricate and branching fan corals, twisted spiraling seashells, lush marine plants and flowers, spherical pearls, and a curious fish. Above the sphere, a solitary red rose hangs, while a mythical bird with iridescent plumage pulls the sphere upwards by a red ribbon, adding to the magic of the composition. The background transitions from a dark, rich blue at the bottom to a lighter, atmosphere of sparkling bubbles at the top, creating a sense of depth and ethereal beauty.
Hand inscription at the bottom right reads and a note to a friend: "To Ann, Who is the center of the Solar System?", and includes doodle of a planet orbiting the sun. Signed, Yan Macs, in gold marker.
