About the Item
Poster remained famous because these world championships in Chamonix are victims of the Cold War. Following the construction of the Berlin Wall, East Germans were banned from all NATO member countries. East German skiers were therefore denied visas for France, then a member of the Atlantic Alliance. As a result, the International Ski Federation (FIS) cancelled the World Championships in Chamonix at the last minute. These were replaced by the World Games which took place on the same dates as the championships.
