About the Item

Il Canneto, 1997, rif. 417 Etching inches 15.4 x 15.5 (mm 395 x 397). Contemporary Art Italian landscape, Lanca Gelata, rif. 405 Original etching, signed and numbered. Limited edition of 90. Master Etcher of Italian Landscape and Soul Federica Galli (1932–2009) stands among Italy’s most celebrated engravers, a true master of etching whose artworks capture the poetic essence of the Italian landscape with unmatched precision and sensitivity. Born in Soresina, near Cremona, Galli’s artistic journey began in post-war Milan. In 1946, she enrolled at the Artistic Lyceum and, soon after, at the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts of Brera, where she graduated in painting in 1954. That same year, she created her first etching, Il paese dell’Alberta, marking the beginning of a lifelong dedication to this intricate technique. From the 1960s onward, Galli refined her distinctive voice in etching, a language through which she expressed both technical mastery and emotional depth. Her subjects, ranging from the vast Lombard plains and Venetian canals to the towering trees that became her emblem, reflect a profound connection with nature and place. Married in 1966 to Giovanni Raimondi, editor-in-chief of Corriere della Sera, Galli travelled extensively across Europe and beyond, absorbing artistic influences while championing the art of engraving in places where it was little known. Over five decades, she produced more than eight hundred plates, a monumental oeuvre that established her as one of the foremost printmakers of her time. Her exhibitions, beginning with her first solo show in Milan in 1960, earned widespread acclaim from collectors and critics alike. Admirers of her work include some of Italy’s most respected art historians and curators, such as Franco Russoli, Giovanni Testori, Mina Gregori, Carlo Bo, and David Landau of Oxford University. In 2019, ten years after her passing, the City of Milan celebrated her legacy with a major institutional retrospective, The Green Grand Tour, and honoured her memory by naming a street after her, a rare tribute to an artist whose work continues to resonate deeply with collectors and art lovers worldwide. Federica Galli’s etchings are represented in prestigious public collections, including: * The British Museum, London * National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, D.C. * The Uffizi Galleries, Florence * Museo del Castello Sforzesco, Milan
Her etchings, both lyrical and exacting, invite viewers into an intimate dialogue with the Italian landscape, transforming observation into poetry. Owning a work by Federica Galli means possessing a piece of Italian artistic heritage, a timeless reflection of beauty, nature, and mastery in printmaking.

Landscape - Original Etching by Fiorella Diamantini - 1980s
By Fiorella Diamantini
Located in Roma, IT
Landscape is a beautiful black and white etching on paper, realized around the 80s by the Italian artist Fiorella Diamantini (Cingoli, 1931-2019). Signed in pencil on the lower right margin and with the abbreviation "P.d.a." in pencil on the lower left margin. Our original etching, an artist proof, confirms the artist's love for classic style in the wake of another great artist from the region Marche: Luigi Bartolini. The hills and the trees clearly emerge among the often rampant whites, but on closer inspection there is no sign that the view is not built, everything is defined by a fabric of lines that thickens for the contours, and it is made rarer for the shadows. She seems to draw her landscapes from absolute white, where the edges of the real irrepressible by a single line are defined by the hatching. A real skilled hand demonstrates a full mastery of the artistic technique and a real suggestive hatching that has something of the geometrical rigor. In very good conditions, except for a minor stain on the lower left margin and some imperceptible signs of time. Fiorella Diamantini was born in Cingoli in 1931 and graduated from the Book School of Urbino and the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. She studied engraving with Leonardo Castellani in Urbino and Mino Maccari in Rome. Since 1958, she has taught in Rome Techniques of Engraving, first assistant of Mino Maccari, then of Arnoldo Ciarrocchi. From 1951, she lived in Rome. In 1980, she moved to Umbria, in Spello. She has been invited to the most important engraving reviews: the Venice Biennale (1956), the Venice Black and White Biennial, the Rome Quadrennial and the national and international exhibitions organized at the National Chalcography of Rome. His works have been presented at the Michel Gallery in Paris, at the Stockholm National Museum, at the National Chalcography of Rome, at the International Rossetti Library in Rome, at the Prandi Library in Reggio Emilia. Her works are present at the InClub Publishing House in Florence and the Galaverni Saletta in Reggio Emilia. The following wrote about Fiorella Diamantini: Mino Maccari, Italo Cremona, Valeria Vecchia, Arnoldo Ciarrocchi, Lorenza Trucchi, Alberto Manfredi...
