Adriaan Lubbers, 'Times Square', lithograph, 1929, edition 50. Signed, dated, titled, and editioned '(50)' in pencil. A fine impression, on cream wove paper, with full margins (2 1/2 to 4 3/4 inches), in excellent condition. Image size 14 3/4 x 8 3/4 inches (375 x 222 mm); sheet size 22 x 15 inches (559 x 381 mm). Archivally matted to museum standards, unframed.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Adriaan Lubbers (1892-1954) traveled to New York City from his native Netherlands in the 1920s. Fascinated with American skyscrapers, he continued to draw inspiration from the New York cityscape for the remainder of his artistic career. Although Lubbers never settled permanently in the United States, his distinctive interpretations of Manhattan architecture earned him fame in America and Europe. Lubbers first trained as an engineer, and he continued to focus on the monumental and sculptural attributes of the city rather than the lives of its denizens. His innovative viewpoints—often over rooftops, under bridges, or across water, distinguish both his paintings and his lithographs.
