About the Item

This set of 12 Serigraphs , each mounted on board, was published in Avant Garde Magazine in March, 1968. Avant Garde magazine only published 14 issues between January 1968 and July 1971. Quoting from this issue: Bert Stern-"I have never been satisfied with them ( the photos taken in Bell Air Hotel). Because of photography's technical limitations, they never quite communicated the dazzling images of Marilyn that existed in my mind's eye at the time I photographed her. " As a result, over the past 5 years Stern has been experimenting with various new techniques that would enable him to capture and preserve the image of Marilyn he saw at the time he photographed her. Just this past fall ( 1967) he hit upon the answer: an amalgam of the dramatic technique of serigraphy and the blazing colors of day-glo ink." There are different colored version of this serigraph set. This is the set specifically created for Avant Garde Magazine. There are 3 images that "bleed" on to the image next to it. I hung them so you see this "bleed". Otherwise, the order of the images are flexible. You could lay them out as a continuous horizontal in a single line or a double line. Each image measures 11"h x 10.5"w
