About the Item

DOT DOT DOT is a visual artist from Norway. With foundations in graffiti since the 90’s, the mediums utilised by the artist range from installations to etchings to drawings. From the mid 2000s, his focus was on stencil work and in the last few years he has stepped back to his oil paintings and has become regarded as one of Norway’s leading and most well known artists. DOT DOT DOT was part of the Fresh A.I.R. class of 2018 in the URBAN NATION Artist in Residence Programme. Entirely self-taught and renown for using his techniques with powerful juxtapositions, that invoke strong ideas and thoughts to the viewer. A minimalist approach to art, that attempts to read the object of content and to being left with just the objects of presence. He does this by creating figurative and hyper-realistic images, which gain the attention of the viewer, a feat of which he is globally renown for. DOT DOT DOT is the pseudonym for an anonymous Norwegian visual, public and conceptual artist. His work has been displayed in galleries around the world, and in cities such as Oslo, Copenhagen, Berlin, Paris, Málaga, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Tokyo, Bangkok and more. Pink Handgun is a 4 layered silkscreen print on 350gsm Arches paper. Edition of 25, this is number 22/25. Signed lower right margin in pencil by the artist with his unique three dot signature.

Although the exact location is unclear, both agree that it would have been at either Fashion Moda or the Writers’ Bench at 149th Street and Grand Concourse. Founded by Stefan Eins in 1978, Fashion Moda began as a “cultural concept” whose principles revolved around the fact that art can be made by anyone, anywhere and art should be accessible to anyone, anywhere. Located in the South Bronx, Fashion Moda embraced new talent and encouraged creative production across all mediums. The gallery has been credited as a major force behind the recognition of graffiti writing as an art form and it played a pivotal role in a community where Hip Hop was rapidly emerging. CRASH was only 19 years old when he curated “Graffiti Art Success for America” at Fashion Moda and his varied experiences at the gallery would later inspire his founding of WALLWORKS. The 149th Street Writers’ Bench, located at the back of the uptown...
