Gate Of The Metwáleys - Cairo is a beautiful original black and white etching engraved by Ebenezer Challis in 1860 ca. after an illustration that David Roberts realized for 'The Art Journal'in 1855. In good conditions, except for some foxings on lower margin and yellowing of paper. Includes passepartout: 43 x 34 cm Lettered below image with title, "From the picture in the Royal Collection", production detail: "D. Roberts R.A. Pinxt.", "E. Challis Sculpt." and publication line: "London, Published for the Proprietors". The artwork represents a view of a market in a busy street, leading to a gateway with two towers on the background. Ebenezer Challis (1806-1881) was a famous engraver of landscapes and architecture, specialist in interiors particularly of the Middle East and of the Arab world. This artwork is shipped from Italy.
