Roy Lichtenstein Reflections on Brushstrokes, from the Reflections Series, 1990 incorporates his iconic multimedia imagery, flowing with eclectic and imaginative sequence of shapes. Bright colors of neon yellow, blue, gray, and green intertwine against each other creating a strong contrasting effect. Shapes and forms are irregularly placed within a rectangular frame allowing the composition to stand out. Lichtenstein’s famous dots are dispersed along the cream colored block running through mainly the center of the image. This creates a comic-like effect that is a common theme throughout his entire oeuvre. Because Reflections is an important series where Lichtenstein uses multimedia and relates to his Mirrors paintings of the early seventies. Dots, stripes, mirrors, prominent brushstrokes presents themselves in a dashing manner throughout this series. With Les Falaises de Trocadéro JR continues his reflection on architecture and excavation of iconic monuments, imagining a trompe l'oeil revealing a street below a large precipice topped by the iconic Eiffel Tower. Through this work, JR redefines the codes of the urban landscape and invites spectators to apprehend their environment differently. The artwork renews itself according to the various lights of day, with each moment offering a new perspective on Paris’ most famous monument, the Eiffel Tower. The latter remains the central element of the composition, but the illusion of an underground city is a new myth, adding to the long list of its rich history. JR continues to reveal the monuments of Paris in a new light by sublimating them and inviting spectators to take a fresh look at their everyday environment. JR used an anamorphosis technique, requiring the audience and volunteers to be at a precise point resulting in spectators trying to find the perfect location and interacting with the artwork, hoping not to fall into the imagined precipice. Using the pseudonym JR, the artist is keeping his identity hidden from the public. As part of the "Jusqu'ici tout va bien", an exhibition by students from the Kourtrajmé school that JR is in charge of the art section of the school, JR created a pasting on the facade of the Palais de Tokyo, in Paris, through an anamorphic image. The collage was visible from August until September 2020, between the buildings of Clichy-Montfermeil and the Eiffel Tower, whose shadow is outlined on the visual in anamorphosis.
