Garhytteån was inspired by the river that runs beside my family’s summerhouse in central Sweden. Sheltered from the wind, the river water is often completely still and acts as a mirror, reflecting the surrounding houses, trees and sky. This print was built up from nine separate layers of print from a combination of digital photographs, hand drawn positives and chiffon fabric. I enjoy the tension and ambiguity these different sources create in the finished print. I am looking forward to returning to Sweden this July, to taking my morning dips in the river, walking in the forests, meeting up with my maternal relations and speaking my mother tongue. This print is currently in the RA Summer Exhibition
