About the artist:
Frédéric VIDALENS, born January 31, 1925 in Brive-la-Gaillarde (Corrèze) and died in Paris in August 2004, is a French painter and engraver. He is buried in the Père-Lachaise Cemetery. Figurative, surrealist painter, registered under number 8531 at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris from 1944 to 1949, he was admitted permanently on June 26, 1945 and joined the Atelier of Jean Dupas at the same time as Paul Ambille, Joseph Archepel, Emile Courtin, Geoffroy Dauvergne, Jean-Pierre Alaux, Jean Monneret, Paul Collomb, Jean Joyet, Mickaël Compagnion, Ernest Risse, Maurice Boitel, René Quillivic and André Plisson. His paintings, with a refined style, in pastel colors, are still lifes featuring everyday objects, tablecloths, napkins, books, skittles, eggs, sewing machines in impeccable alignment. Reviews on the Visconti gallery website. He received his first second medal at the Trois Ateliers in 1949. "What strikes you first is the silence. A long silence: the kind you hear. And then, it's the wise, mathematical immobility, solemnity of objects. Finally comes the color: soft, clear shades, like a white which would be sought between beige and ocher. There you go. It is the "bias of things", Vidalens version, painter of sure observation, poet of a world surprised in his ancient wisdom, perhaps a philosopher whose work, mystery, breathes modesty and supreme irony...
