About the Item
Original CACAO VAN HOUTEN, LE Meilleur Chocolat a consommer liquide. Hot chocolate turn of the century antique vintage poster, unsigned. Printed by W. Hagelberg Akt in Berlin, Germany.
The image features two girls passing a cup of Cacao Van Houten hot chocolate through a broken fence. This chocolate company created a variety of designs over the years, but this is one of the much more rare images from the company.
From their website: "Among the chocolate brands available today, few can claim a legacy that goes back over 180 years. Van Houten has been manufacturing cocoa powder since 1828, when its founder, Coenraad Van Houten, pioneered a process to manufacture cocoa in Amsterdam, Holland. The result was a tastier and more soluble cocoa powder which spurred the growth of the hot chocolate drink industry.
The poster has some restored fold marks and restored 1/2" white borders around the outside of the image. Presents very well. Very rare original Cacao / chocolate original poster.

Limited edition vintage lithographic reproduction poster of "Le Théâtrophone" by Jules Cheret, published in 1968 by The Sunday Times (London).
This limited edition poster is numbered 600/2000 in pencil with the Sunday Times blind stamp (ST Limited Edition) in the lower right corner. The print is offered with a matt presentation frame. It also includes printed text from the original Chaix lithograph in Paris, visible along the left margin of the page.
The Théâtrophone was a popular device that allowed listeners to enjoy opera and theatre performances for a small fee over the telephone. It began in Paris in 1890 and by inserting a coin and listening through earphones, one could hear performances from the Paris Opera. Its popularity spread to other cities but was eclipsed by the radio in 1932.
