"De Quoi! De Quoi! Votre Dot?" is an original lithograph 3/3 D. 390 (Charivari) by Honore Daumier. It depicts an odd-looking man and a beautifully-dressed woman in conversation. There is text below the image captioning the scene. Original Text: "De quoi ! De quoi ! Votre dot ?…. Est-ce qu'on l'a mangée, votre dot ?…… On l'a perdue dans les opérations industrielles. Et puis d'ailleurs, est-ce que ça dure toujours une dot……… Je compte bien en user plusieurs…….." Translation: "Well? Well? What about your dowry?.?... Do you think someone's eaten it?... It's been lost in industrial speculation. But apart from that, what do you imagine... that a dowry lasts forever?... I have every intention of getting through several more..." Artwork Size: 14 1/4" x 9 1/2" Frame Size: 21 1/4" x 18 3/4" Artist Bio: Honoré Daumier (1808 – 1879) was a French printmaker, caricaturist, painter, and sculptor, whose many works offer commentary on social and political life in France in the 19th century. A prolific draftsman who produced over 500 paintings, 4000 lithographs, 1000 wood engravings, 1000 drawings, 100 sculptures he was perhaps best known for his caricatures of political figures and satires on the behavior of his countrymen, although posthumously the value of his painting has also been recognized.
