The pictures are only for illustrative reasons, the work is offered unframed. The street artist and photographer JR started out his artist practice in the streets of Paris. Using the pseudonym JR, the artist is keeping his identity hidden from the public. JR started working with the subject of the ballet dancer in 2014 through a collaboration with the New York City Ballet for their annual Art Series program. In the same year, in July, he completed a big mural titled Bird Ballerina at the container wall, in Le Havre, France, which was part of his Women are Heroes Project that was wheat-pasted on container ships, measuring 363-meters-long. Except for their gigantic form, the containers offer a unique atmosphere through their coloured blocks, some are faded and others more saturated, they extend an untold story of their countless trips throughout the world. One notices that the heroine is placed in a cell, just like a bird in a cage, trapped, hence the title Bird Ballerina. Based on that outdoor work, JR created his new edition In the Container Wall, Le Havre, France, 2014-2020 which is a photograph of the mural, turned into a limited edition print. JR JR is a photographer and artist whose identity is unconfirmed. After he found a camera in the Paris subway, he did a tour of European Street Art, tracking the people who communicate messages via the walls. Then, he started to work on the vertical limits, watching the people and the passage of life from the forbidden undergrounds and roofs of Paris. He has described himself as a "photograffeur", as he flyposts large black-and-white photographic images in public locations in a manner that is similar to the appropriation of the built environment by the graffiti artist. "The beauty of an art project is that you cannot always measure the impact, but one day it can become clear." —JR The artist exhibits freely in the streets of the world, catching the attention of people who are not typical museum visitors. JR's work combines art and performance and its subject varies from commitment, freedom, identity and limitations. JR has exhibited his work at Centre Pompidou, Tate Modern, Watari-Um in Tokyo, Frieder Burda Museum in Baden-Baden, and Power Station of Art in Shanghai.

With Les Falaises de Trocadéro JR continues his reflection on architecture and excavation of iconic monuments, imagining a trompe l'oeil revealing a street below a large precipice topped by the iconic Eiffel Tower. Through this work, JR redefines the codes of the urban landscape and invites spectators to apprehend their environment differently. The artwork renews itself according to the various lights of day, with each moment offering a new perspective on Paris’ most famous monument, the Eiffel Tower. The latter remains the central element of the composition, but the illusion of an underground city is a new myth, adding to the long list of its rich history. JR continues to reveal the monuments of Paris in a new light by sublimating them and inviting spectators to take a fresh look at their everyday environment. JR used an anamorphosis technique, requiring the audience and volunteers to be at a precise point resulting in spectators trying to find the perfect location and interacting with the artwork, hoping not to fall into the imagined precipice.
