Lee Wells End of the World Party #4 2023 Archival pigment print Edition of 5 Caption: Garden of Otherworldly Delights: In an enclave where the surreal kisses the divine, mythical beings—Lady Luna, Sir Orion, and the enigmatic Zephyr, among others—imbibe in a symphony of smoke and style, crafting tales of an elusive epoch where every moment drips with the essence of ethereal elegance. 11 4/5 × 11 4/5 in 30 × 30 cm Edition of 5 - $1200 23 3/5 × 23 3/5 in 60 × 60 cm Edition of 5 - $2600 39 2/5 × 39 2/5 in 100 × 100 cm Edition of 5 - $4800 59 1/10 × 59 1/10 in 150 × 150 cm Edition of 1 - $9000 "Poolside Party (2023)" is a playful series of AI-assisted artworks by Lee Wells that reincarnates the Naiades from ancient mythology into lavish 21st-century pool parties. The project began earlier this year while the artist was in residency in South Crete. During this period, he endeavoured to communicate with the local goddesses through meditation, natural medicine, and various AI tools. These tools served as channelling mediums, helping him gain a deeper understanding of the realms they inhabit, as well as our own. The digital artworks serve as a new form of painting, showcasing intriguing and exquisite figures relaxing and revelling poolside at mesmerising garden house parties. Through this collaborative effort between the artist, the spirits, and AI, the overarching message conveyed is that life is fleeting. Thus, the most crucial thing is to enjoy ourselves, have fun, and strive to love as best we can in this wonderful and strange world we call home. 'Love Garden Party (Envy)' by Skip Hill, Mixed Media Painting
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
This 26.5" x 29.5" by American artist, Skip Hill, is a vibrant mixed media collage/painting combining abstracted figures with stylized vases and domestic objects, adhering to the stylistic qualities of the Pop Art movement. The abstracted cats and the female figure are the focal points within the composition. Layered textures and material juxtapositions adhere to the assemblage processes. The integration of food bowls, patterned vessels, and foreign script introduces surreal narrative elements and multicultural references, positioning the work within postmodern collage traditions. 'Love Garden Party (Envy)' is on 150 lb paper stock and is hand embellished with inks, acrylic paints and collage, thus creating a unique work of art. Love Garden Party (Envy) is framed with conservation quality, high UV-filtering museum glazing. The painting/collage is signed on the lower front of the work by the artist. The work is framed in a heavy white wooden frame. Skip Hill was born in 1961 in Padre Island, Texas but grew up primarily in Oklahoma City. After attending Oklahoma City University to study Advertising and Marketing, he worked as a graphic designer before relocating in 1987 to Southern California. A two-week trip to Thailand in 1989 turned into a year traveling throughout Southeast Asia while writing for a business magazine based in Bangkok. In 1990 Skip Hill relocated to the Netherlands, immersing himself in the culture and learning the Dutch language. His frequent visits the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum and The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam as well as the Boijman Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, sparked Hill’s interest in creating art inspired by aesthetic concerns over the strictly commercial art he produced during his advertising career. It was during this time abroad that he traveled through Germany, Czechoslovakia and Morocco. After returning to Oklahoma in 1993, Skip Hill studied formally at The University of Oklahoma with conceptual artist Hachivi Edgar Heap of Birds, and influential abstract painter George Bogart...
