About the Item

Linda Stein, Profile Flying 446.042 - Signed Feminist LGBTQ+ Graphite on Paper Drawing Profile Flying 446.042 is from Linda Stein's Profiles series--drawings, collages and paintings of facial profiles she made in the 1960s and 1970s when she was coming to terms with her sexuality. These facial profiles all start below the eyes, reflecting her need as a youth to avoid being "seen" because she felt different at a time when homosexuality was considered anathema.
