This artwork is an original color lithograph on Arches paper by French artist Marcel (le Mime) Marceau, 1923-2007. It is signed and numbered 217/250 in pencil by the artist. The image size is 16.75 x 23 inches, sheet size is 22 x 30 inches, framed size is 33 x 38.5 inches. It was published by Lithoprint, Paris, France. It is beautifully framed in a custom wooden gold frame, with gold color bevel and fabric matting. it is in excellent condition.
About the artist.
Mime artist. Marcel Marceau was born Marcel Mangel in March 22nd 1923, in Strasbourg, NE France. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and with Etienne Decroux. In 1948 he founded the Compagnie de Mime Marcel Marceau, developing the art of mime, becoming himself the leading exponent. His white-faced character, Bip, based on the 19th-c French Pierrot, a melancholy vagabond, is famous from his appearances on stage and television throughout the world. Among the many original performances he has devised are the mime-drama Don Juan (1964), and the ballet Candide (1971). He has also created about 100 pantomimes, such as The Creation of the World. In 1978 he became head of the Ecole de Mimodrame Marcel Marceau. Among his numerous talented skills, Marcel Marceau was a painter and a graphic artist. He died in Cahors, France in September 22nd 2007 at the age of 84.
