One Thousand and One Night - the Harem is an amazing black and white héliogravure on paper, realized in 1906 by the Austrian artist Raphaël Kirchner (1976-1917).
Signed on plate on the right margin at the center.
This is the reproduction of the superb original charcoal drawing by the master: an original illustration for the German translation of the popular "One Thousand and One Nights" stories, a bookplate titled Das Buch der Tausend Nächte und der einen Nacht (C.W. Stern, 1906).
Demonstrating the masterful draftsmanship, and graphic skills, this is an unmistakable new Art Nouveau illustration, with the fresh impression, wide margins, in excellent condition, including a silver-painted wooden frame.
This original print represents an exotic display of Middle Eastern fashionable eroticism.: two sensual gorgeous harem slave girls are portrayed in a cruel realism, while they are chained and trying to eat something.
An example of the early Kirchner's pin-up works will inspire the Peruvian painter Alberto Vargas and after him will crowd the general public with this artistic tendency and fashion.
