About the Item

Shepard Fairey's "Mayday" - A Narrative of Distress and Hope Step into the vibrant world of contemporary art with Shepard Fairey's evocative masterpiece, "Mayday." Created in 2010, this exceptional art print transcends time, resonating with an energy that ignites both the visual senses and the depths of thought. Measuring at 7.5 x 10 inches, "Mayday" is a testament to Fairey's ability to pack a profound narrative within a compact canvas. As you gaze upon the artwork, you're immediately drawn into a dialogue that encompasses social commentary, aesthetic brilliance, and artistic depth. This limited edition print holds the distinction of being one of only 1000 ever produced, each one a unique revelation of Fairey's creative prowess. With the artist's signature gracing each piece, "Mayday" becomes a personal connection to Fairey's vision, his dedication to authenticity, and his commitment to the craft. In Fairey’s mind, the persistence of difficulties in the political, environmental, economic, and cultural arenas points to the definition of Mayday as a distress signal: “By now we thought we would be in a post-Bush utopia, but we’re still having to call attention to these problems.” Like any mayday call, however, the sounding of the alarm also brings hope for help on the way. “If we stay silent, there’s no hope,” Fairey muses. “But if we make noise, if we put our ideas out there, then maybe we can make a change like the people in the portraits have done.” What sets "Mayday" apart is not just the visual spectacle it offers, but the emotions it stirs within. The imagery unfolds like a visual poem, inviting viewers to interpret the layers of meaning embedded within its design. Fairey's deft manipulation of color, texture, and symbolism creates an artwork that not only captivates the eye but also sparks contemplation. Preserved in mint condition, this print has been carefully stored flat, untouched by the passage of time. Its pristine state is a testament to the reverence it has received, awaiting the perfect owner who will continue its artistic journey. You may notice specks within the paper that is a characteristic of the speckletone paper it is printed on. As you welcome "Mayday" into your collection, you embrace a piece of art that embodies the essence of Shepard Fairey's vision. It's not merely an acquisition; it's a gateway to contemplation, a source of inspiration, and a testament to the power of creativity to transcend boundaries. Experience the resonance of Shepard Fairey's "Mayday" — a fusion of artistic brilliance, social commentary, and aesthetic allure that will forever grace your space with its magnetic presence.

Intended for publication by Amiel, New York. Sheehan 96-108. The Mother of Us All, is an opera which imaginatively chronicles the story of Susan B. Anthony and the women's suffrage movement, written by Gertrude Stein and composed by Virgil Thompson in 1945. In 1976 Robert Indiana was hired to create the costumes and set design for the Santa Fe Opera Company’s production of The Mother to Us All. This collection of lithographs illustrates Indiana's costume designs for the Virgil Thomson-Gertrude Stein same-titled opera. Robert Indiana is one of the most recognized names in Contemporary and Pop Art, his LOVE sculptures, paintings, and prints are by far his most iconic pieces. It all began in the summer of 1965, when The Museum of Modern Art commissioned Indiana to design its Christmas card. He submits LOVE in four color possibilities; the museum selects the red, blue, and green version. In 1967 he produces three serigraphs of LOVE, and two serigraphs of LOVE Wall. During the next two years, produces other serigraph variations on LOVE, with more following in 1972, 1973, 1975, 1982, and 1991. Indiana’s LOVE motif has since been translated into a US postage stamp...
