UnknownHeron and Crow in Snow
Unsigned as is usual Format: Tanzaku ("poem slip") Publisher: Daikoku-ya (Matsuke) Heikichi (1818-1923) Aizuri (blue printing) started in the 1820s with the import of the pigment Prussian blue from Europe, which was more vivid, had a greater tonal range and was more resistant to fading. Poem slips were a Japanese New Year tradition. Images have lots of "negative" space for well-wishers to personalize greetings. They are somewhat rare since this form of popular ephemera was meant to be used and discarded. Image: 9-1/2 x 2-3/8"
