- R.B. Kitaj Screenprint Collage Hand Signed British Pop Art Film Still CamelBy Ronald Brooks KitajLocated in Surfside, FLThe Most Important Film Ever Made, 1972 Color screen print and collage, from the edition of 70. 15 x 17 in 38.1 x 43.2 cm Published by the artist with Marlborough Graphics at the Kelpra studio in 1972. This work is also in the collections of TATE London and the Victoria & Albert Museum. the price reflects the fact that there is no backing page. Stylistically, these are hybrid works, influenced by Pop art and the modernist tradition of the Readymade, a work of art created when a mundane found object is named as an artwork and set in an art context. This avant-garde concept was originally invented by the Dada master Marcel Duchamp early in the twentieth century. In the 1960s it received renewed attention at a time when artistic norms were again being questioned. Reacting to Andy Warhol’s Pop imagery, Kitaj poignantly called his repurposed lithograph and silkscreen book covers “his soup can, his Liz Taylor.” The blatant use of images taken directly from commercial sources situates In Our Time as a precursor of appropriation art. In turning book covers into works of art, Kitaj is offering fragments of a history of knowledge, in which the content of each volume is at once mysterious and absent. Coming from this passionate bibliophile, the series is nothing less than an intellectual self-portrait. R.B. Kitaj, in full Ronald Brooks Kitaj . Ron Kitaj...Category

- Blood Rose, Rosie Emerson, Contemporary Silkscreen Print, Figurative artLocated in Deddington, GBBlood Roses by Rosie Emerson Hand signed by the artist Limited Edition Silkscreen Print Edition of 10 +2 AP’s Sheet Size: H 75cm x W 55cm x D 0.1cm Sold Unframed Please note that in situ images are purely an indication of how a piece may look. Blood Roses is a limited edition figurative print by Rosie Emerson. This piece is a hand painted charcoal and Bronze powder screen print on 300gsm Somerset Satin Printmaking Paper. The style of the work is evocative of the prohibition era. Rosie Emerson, born in 1981, is a contemporary artist working almost exclusively on representing the female form. Emerson’s figures draw reference from archetypes old and new, from Artemis to the modern day super model, each solitary figure, an allegory of her own fantasy. Interested in surface, the interplay between photography and painting. Emerson’s works are playful constructs; Photography is used, not as a device for capturing reality but for creating romanticised optical illusions. Inspired by her love of theatre, performance, shrines and rituals, she uses lighting, costume, set and prop making, alongside printmaking and a painters palette to create one off pieces which aim to be simultaneously known and unknown; of this world and not. Her photography is inspired by both the drama of the baroque, and ethereal qualities of Pre Raphaelite works. Other important influences include late medieval and renaissance paintings, Japanese prints, and magical realist literature. Emerson’s work is widely collected and exhibited both in the UK as well as internationally, through galleries, art fairs and museums. She has also worked with brands and individuals including Harvey Nichols, The Ivy Club, Sony, Triumph Underwear, Redbull, P&O Cruises, and Annoushka jewelry...Category
